Winter magic of a medieval doll's house

Quedlinburg unfolds a very special attraction at Christmas. But it's not just the romantic lighting that turns a stroll through the alleyways with their cobblestones and ornate half-timbered houses into a journey back in time to the Middle Ages.

In addition to the Christmas market on the central, historic market square in front of the venerable town hall, the first Quedlinburg courtyards opened their doors in Advent 1997.

Spread across the entire town, families, small traders, craft guilds, art and culture provide an insight into their usually closed courtyard world. While some present their handmade hats, ceramics, glass and fashion repertoire, others offer antiques, Harz specialities or food and drink in a homely setting.

Beautifully decorated, you can explore the farm shops and stalls, socialise, chat, eat, drink or simply enjoy the Advent season. Around 20 farms invite you to take a stroll with their ideas.

Each courtyard gives the Quedlinburg Advent magic its own personal essence. The "Pfeiffer mit drei f" courtyard in the style of the 1940s, including "Feuerzangenbowle" (a famous movie from the 1940s), the Augustinerhof, the Pfefferkuchenhof, the Lokschuppen, the Naturhof at Pulverturm, the Adelshof and many more are sure to stand out.

Quedlinburg also enchants visitors with an entertaining Advent calendar. Every day (1-24 December), a door of the festively decorated half-timbered houses on the Schlossberg literally comes to life. Fairy tales and historical stories are presented in an imaginative and artistic way. The houses can be recognised by their calendar numbers.

When you look at Quedlinburg, you are leafing through the history book of a town that is over 1000 years old with houses that are several hundred years old.

... one of my favourite cities. ...not only because I associate it with childhood memories and countless family visits, but also because it combines history, culture and beauty as one of the most important historical sites in Germany and Europe. Read more in "Quedlinburg: World Heritage & Jewel in the Harz Mountains".
